Betty Jean Hicks

	Betty Jean Hicks, 73, of Vergennes, passed away Wednesday, March 27 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
	Mrs. Hicks was the owner of Modglin Grocery in Vergennes.  She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Vergennes.
	She was born July 7, 1928 in Jackson County, the daughter of Alvie and Yula (Dutch) Ripley.  She married Warren Modglin who preceded her in death in 1963.  She then married Bill Hicks on June 24, 1967 in Vergennes.
	Surviving are her husband, Bill Hicks of Vergennes; one daughter, Brenda Vanzandt of Fort Worth, Tex.; one son-in-law, Russ Vanzandt of DuQuoin; one Don and daughter-in-law, Keith and Ivalee Modglin of Vergennes; four grandchildren, Jason Vanzandt of DuQuoin, Jordan Vanzandt of DuQuoin, Jamie and husband Steve Valier of DuQuoin and Lana Modglin of Vergennes; two great-grandchildren, Lane Valier and Sydney Valier, both of DuQuoin; one brother, Delmar Ripley of Oreana, Ill. and three sisters, Phyllis Tripp and Cherylan Staffey, both of Murphysboro and Frances Opp of Tamaroa.
	She was preceded in death by her parents.
	Funeral services weree Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Vergennes with Rev. Bill Wiggs officiating.  Interment was in Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro.
	Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pettett Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to the hour of services at the church. 
	Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
